Your Practice Permit

Your Practice Permit tells you and your patients important things like:

  • the current year of registration
  • your registration number
  • whether you are a General, Specialist, or General & Specialist Dentist

You must either display your permit where you practice or produce it when asked to. You can download and print your permit in the Registrant Portal.

After you renew, remember to:

  • print your Practice Permit
  • print your receipt

Adding a Specialty to Your Practice Permit

Once registered as a General Dentist, you may acquire a specialty certificate later in your career. You can add your specialty to your Practice Permit to be registered as a General Dentist & Dental Specialist.

Dental Specialists must meet the requirements of The National Dental Examining Board of Canada – National Dental Specialty Examination (NDSE).

Applying to add a specialty to your Practice Permit can be done through the Registrant Portal.

How to Add a Specialty to your Practice Permit

Once submitted, send a copy of your NDSE Certificate to registration@cdsab.ca to complete your application.

The following dental specialties are nationally recognized in Canada:

  • Endodontists
  • Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologists
  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
  • Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology Specialists
  • Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedists
  • Pediatric Dentists
  • Periodontists
  • Prosthodontists
  • Public Health Dentists

Not practicing
