All non-hospital facilities where general or neurolept anesthesia are used in dental treatment must be accredited by the CDSA.

This process involves registration, completion of a questionnaire and an inspection to ensure compliance with the CDSA Standards which are available to the dental operators of such facilities. This process is separate from that required by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Accreditation is mandated by law in Alberta in the Health Professions Act and the Health Facilities Act and is carried out by the Dental Facilities Accreditation Committee (DFAC).
