Continued Competence and education is an important part of a Dentist’s career and a requirement under the Health Professions Act and Dentists Profession Regulation.
Registrants are responsible for self-reporting their continuing education credit hours online. Visit the Registrant Portal to submit Continuing Education.
Dentists are reminded that it is their ethical responsibility to ensure that all reporting of Continuing Education credit hours is accurate. Failure to do so may constitute unprofessional conduct and may result in sanctions.
The CDSA will send a Continuing Competence Program Credits Reporting Cycle reminder email to Dentists who have not met their Continuing Competence/Education requirement approximately six months before the end of the current two-year reporting cycle.
Alberta Dentists have two (2) regulatory-directed categories to fulfill:
1. Resuscitation: HCP/CPR (BLS)
HCP/CPR (BLS) with AED (hands-on) is mandatory and must be taken yearly.
2. Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct
The Health Professions Act directs that all health profession regulators establish a patient relations program which includes training for regulated members on protecting patients from sexual abuse and sexual misconduct.
The CDSA Standard of Practice: Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct, and Female Genital Mutilation defines who is considered to be a patient for the purposes of the sexual abuse and sexual misconduct provisions in the Health Professions Act, and to clarify the consequences of engaging in sexual abuse or sexual misconduct with a patient.
This course is required as part of every two-year reporting cycle.
The mandatory Protecting Patients from Sexual Abuse and Misconduct course covers expectations for the profession and its relationships with patients.
Once submitted via the self-reporting tool, regulatory-directed learning courses must be verified and approved by CDSA staff.
